NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month
“An annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000-word manuscript between November 1 and November 30”
The last time I participated in NaNoWriMo was in my first year of 6th form I think I wrote something inspired heavily by what I was learning about in history class and what I was reading at the time, years on from then I’ve decided to attempt the challenge again. This time I’m doing it as part of more of a community. I’ve got a group chat set up with other friends around the country that want to try this year, and I’ve already started discussing my ideas with them and with the people in my life irl. I wanted to discuss my ideas and post updates here too to become more of a part of the internet culture around the challenge, and give myself checkpoints to look back on how my piece developed.
I’m currently part way into day two of writing and my ideas don’t feel fully realised enough to describe so I thought I’d drop a few of the songs I’ve been listening to that have inspired me while getting started. Maybe it’ll encourage you, if you’re taking part in Nano this year to build a soundtrack for when you need to get back into the tone of your piece to start writing each day.
